Continuing a Legacy of Service

The Shepherd’s Heart and the Master Educator’s Blueprint: A Foundation of Faith and Academic Mastery."

The S.F. Nolen Academy is the living continuation of a lifelong calling. Our mission is built upon two distinct pillars: the Spiritual Devotion of Clyde E. Nolen Sr. and the Educational Excellence of Sara Frances Nolen.

We believe that a child’s education is a sacred trust that requires both the compassion of a shepherd and the precision of a master architect. Below, we honor the 'Living Stones' whose lives provided the cornerstone for the Founding 26 and the standards we uphold today.

In Honor of Clyde E. Nolen Sr.: Our Spiritual Foundation

Nolen Memorial Community Church stands as a living tribute to the life and ministry of Clyde E. Nolen Sr., a man who answered the call to shepherd others with a heart for the Gospel and a hand extended in service.

A Life Defined by the Call

Born in Memphis and rooted in the faith of the Mid-South, Clyde’s journey was one of unwavering devotion. For over five decades, he served as a Baptist minister, carrying the light of the Gospel to congregations across Mississippi and Tennessee. His ministry was not defined by the size of the building, but by the depth of the relationships he built and the souls he guided toward grace.

A Shepherd’s Heart

A true minister in the tradition of the "faithful servant," Clyde was known for his gentle spirit and his profound ability to walk alongside his congregation in their highest joys and deepest sorrows. He believed that the church was not a structure, but a community—a family bound together by love and the redemptive power of Christ. His 57-year marriage to Sara Nolen served as the ultimate example of the covenant love he preached from the pulpit.

The Legacy of the "Living Stone"

Clyde’s ministry did not end with his earthly journey; it continues through the foundations he laid. He instilled in his children a deep respect for the Word and a drive for leadership that seeks to serve rather than be served. This church is a continuation of his Saturday night prayers, his Sunday morning sermons, and his lifelong mission to make the love of God tangible to every person he met.

At Nolen Memorial Community Church, we strive to mirror his humility, his steadiness, and his absolute conviction that community is where faith truly comes to life.

In Honor of Sara Frances Nolen: Our Foundational Inspiration

S.F. Nolen Academy is named in loving memory of Sara Frances Nolen, a master educator whose life’s work serves as the blueprint for our school’s commitment to academic excellence and Christian virtue.

A Career of Singular Devotion

A graduate of Blue Mountain College (Class of 1988, Cum Laude), Sara devoted her entire teaching career to a single institution:

Ashland Elementary School.

For nearly two decades, she forged deep bonds with generations of families, earning the profound respect of students, parents, and colleagues alike. Her dedication to Ashland was not just a job, but a calling—a belief that every child deserves a steadfast champion in the classroom.

A Standard of Excellence.

Sara did not simply teach; she led by example. She achieved the prestigious status of National Board-Certified Teacher and was honored in the publication Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Her determination to succeed, often in the face of challenging circumstances, was a testament to her grit and her faith.

The Legacy of the "First Teacher"

Beyond her professional accolades, Sara was a woman of immense God-given talent—a writer, artist, and pianist who believed in the beauty of the arts. Her greatest academic achievement, however, was her own home. She instilled a love of learning in her children that resulted in five of them earning advanced degrees, including the doctoral leadership that guides this Academy today.

At S.F. Nolen Academy, we don’t just teach the Classical Arts; we carry forward the gentle spirit, the disciplined mind, and the forgiving heart of the woman who inspired it all.

The Founding 26: Building the Next Generation of Leaders on a Foundation of Excellence.

The legacy of the Nolen family is not a monument to the past; it is a blueprint for the future of Memphis. We are seeking twenty-six families to join us as the cornerstone of S.F. Nolen Academy—a doctoral-led, classical community where every child is treated as a 'Living Stone.'

By honoring the Shepherd’s Heart and the Master Educator’s Blueprint, we ensure that these scholars inherit more than just an education—they inherit a standard of character and a lineage of success. This is your invitation to secure their place in history.
